TapDecode Privacy Policy

Effective August 17, 2026

Local-first by design

TapDecode has no accounts, ads, analytics, tracking, backend, or third-party SDKs, and it does not collect or transmit personal data.

Selected screenshots and photos

The system Photos picker gives TapDecode access only to the image you select. Apple Vision reads visible text on the device. The selected image and recognized text are not uploaded. Camera and microphone access are not used.

On-device guidance

Deterministic local rules create the complete fallback guidance. On eligible iOS 26 devices, Apple’s Foundation Models framework may restate an OCR-derived fact summary in plainer language. Raw recognized text is not included in that model prompt. The model runs on-device and never replaces TapDecode’s deterministic warnings or safe next steps.

Information saved on the device

TapDecode saves generated guidance only after you tap Save to History. It does not save the selected image or arbitrary recognized text. A trusted helper’s name, phone number, and relationship are saved only when you enter them. Reading preferences are stored in app-only settings.

Retention and deletion

Saved history remains until you delete an item or clear history. A trusted helper can be removed separately, or Settings can delete both history and trusted-helper information together. Reading preferences remain unless you change them. Deleting the app removes its locally stored app data from the iPhone.

Limits

TapDecode cannot verify a sender, caller, app, website, picture, icon, or screen layout, and it cannot guarantee that something is safe. Use a known phone number or official app when verifying an unexpected request.
